Purchased a modem one year back and the hardware is working fine, but the software is not.  It fails to save.  The real problem lies here.

The modem supplied by BSNL  will work fine if all the green light glows i.e., PWR, INET, DSL, and WLAN  should glow.  Of course your ethernet connection light should also glow meaning that the cable is connected correctly.

Now here is a problem that I am facing.  Even though all these works fine...we can't browse, it is because our username and password has got changed automatically.   Why this username and password changes automatically is not known, how this modem changes this username and password is not known.  To correct this, we have to go to Advanced setup and change the username and password to that which was given by the BSNL   Save the configuration and we can browse.

Latest....

Now the modem itself is not saving the configuarations.  When we approached BSNL they asked us to change the modem, purchase a new one.

Considering the quality of modem supplied by BSNL we thought it a better idea to buy a D-Link Modem, which now is working fine.

The cost of the BSNL modem is Rs.1,600/-  if we go for the rent option it is Rs.80/- per month.   So in 20 months time the rent we would pay will be Rs.1,600/-.   We calculate... why spend Rs.80/- per month lets go for an outright purchase and keep the modem rent free for years to come.  But you will be shocked to know that the modem will not work after some 15 or 17 months.   That holds good for every modem.   If you take the modem to BSNL office they would ask us to change the modem.

This is not the case with D-Link modem.  It works fine.
